UPDATE: REGARDING COVID BOOSTER - 04/19/2023

  • If you are  over age 65 AND it’s been 4 months since last BIVALENT COVID vaccine, then prescriptions and letters for boosters from your primary care MD are no longer necessary. You can obtain the BIVALENT booster at most  local pharmacies.

  • If you are  IMMUNOCOMPROMISED:  you can receive the booster as early as 2 months since last dose.

  • For patients not meeting the above requirements, another announcement is anticipated in June, that may allow for one on one MD consideration and letter to the pharmacy to obtain.

Moderna or Pfizer? It is most important that you receive the booster. Patients can mix/match and cross over for the boosters because there was older data demonstrating improved immune response if someone had both Pfizer and Moderna.

A second bivalent dose for individuals 65 years of age and older is supported by data showing the waning of immunity in this population over time and its restoration by an additional dose.  Additionally, based on evidence from studies conducted previously, immunocompromised individuals may require additional doses.
